Madrid, June 12, 2024 – The seventh edition of the HR Debate. was successfully held, delving into the application of Artificial Intelligence in Human Resources management and the implications of absenteeism. This event was attended by industry experts and provided a platform to discuss current trends and challenges in the business environment.
Artificial Intelligence in Human Resources Management and Emotional Health
During the first block of the discussion, issues related to the growing incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in human resource management and its implications were addressed.
- Marisol Sanz, Director of Speciality Health at Aon, discussed how HR management can be used to improve the quality of healthcare services. through AI impacts the emotional health of employees, highlighting both the benefits and potential challenges.
- Jose Varela Ferrio, Head of Digitalization and Secretariat of the Technical Office of the Communications and Culture Sector of UGT, analyzed the implications of the new AI regulation for companies and workers, pointing out the possible consequences in the short and medium term and discussing whether the regulation could be considered intrusive or a brake on innovation.
- Ana Hernandez Iglesias, Senior Employment Lawyer at A&O Shearman, focused on the legal risks associated with the uncontrolled use of AI and compared how different countries, such as the US, UK, China and Australia, are approaching AI regulation compared to the European Union.
- Angel Javier Vicente, Corporate Director of Human Resources at Grupo Avintia, reflected on how AI could affect the relationship between employees and employers, raising the possibility of the creation of new labor “castes”. In addition, he addressed the importance of training and retraining in the context of AI-driven digital literacy.
Workplace Absenteeism: Analysis and Reduction Strategies
The second part of the debate focused on absenteeism, a growing concern for companies.
- Marisol Sanz explained what is meant by absenteeism and which is the most worrying for companies, as well as identifying the main causes of absenteeism due to temporary disability (TI).
- Ana Hernández Iglesias discussed the latest developments in communicating the IT situation to the employer and its impact on companies. It also clarified issues related to the possibility of dismissing an employee during a medical leave, in light of the Integral Law for Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination.
- Jose Varela Ferrio discussed the remarkable increase in absenteeism figures, exploring the causes behind this phenomenon and proposing measures to address it.
- Angel Javier Vicente examined the role of mutual insurance companies in monitoring absenteeism, questioning whether sick leave fraud is a social cliché or a reality, and suggested measures to reduce it.
The panelists shared various strategies and recommendations for reducing absenteeism, emphasizing the importance of proactive and well-informed management of employee health and wellness.
This series of RR. HR allows to value, in an innovative way, the practical learning of iFP-Atresmedia students with the collaboration of large companies and managers associated with DCH. iFP and Atresmedia have been collaborating closely for 4 years in the teaching of vocational training cycles in the audiovisual field. In this way, this event aims to make available to all the knowledge and experience of the protagonists of the HR field and, in turn, to involve iFP-Atresmedia students with a real and professional experience.
